A Baby Shower for Haven

This is my sweet little niece, Haven.
Haven was born in February.
In January I posted pictures of the cake for Haven's baby shower, but I never posted any others.
So, here they are, 3 months later.....

Lauren's Piano Cake

My friend, Lauren, celebrated her 16th birthday last week. She asked me about a month ago to recommend some cake sites so she could find a cake that she liked. I pointed her to Pink Cake Box because they make some of the greatest cakes. She liked this one, flat instead of topsy turvy.

Here's my version.

Mom's Birthday Cake

My Mom's birthday was the weekend before Halloween, but we celebrated at church on Halloween night. We already had a gathering planned, so we did it all together.

Friday night I asked Mom what her favorite color was. {{Pink}} I didn't know this. Does that make me a bad daughter?!?

I used this tutorial to make the flower. I love it!

Oh, and I don't have a picture of Mom with the cake because she's very impatient. She was ready to get the cake cut and distributed lest the ghosts and goblins got too restless! At least I got the cake.

Zebra Cake

My friend, Lauren, and I made this cake for her Mom, Debby.
Debby loves zebra print, and red is her favorite color.

This was put together really quickly, so of course it didn't come out exactly how I wanted. I think it's cute, though. Next time we'll make it look more like a zebra. Debby liked it, though, & it tasted delicious, so I guess it was perfect!

Ye-Haw! Happy Birthday Madalyn!

My oldest niece, Madalyn, celebrated her 11th birthday last week. She told me all the way back in January what kind of cake she wanted. We even sat down together and drew it all out. Her Mom (Dala) ended up changing a few things, so it was sort of a surprise to Maddy.

Amelia

This is Amelia.
The baby, not the silly woman with her eyes closed.
Amelia's grandparents go to our church. She and her parents live in a different state, so when they came to visit this past week, her granparents gave Amelia a baby shower. I was asked to make a cake for the shower.

Lucy Loves Magnolias

A couple weeks ago, a lady in the church approached me about making her Mom a birthday cake. She will celebrate her 70th this week, and they were all getting together on Father's Day to have her a party. The birthday girl, Lucy, loves magnolias, so her daughter requested a cake with a magnolia on it. This was a lot of fun to do. My sister picked a magnolia for me from the tree in our yard. The only one she could find was a little wilted, but it served as a good model. I first made the petals a little too pointed. Everyone was sure to point it out.I agreed, though; it looked more like a daisy than a magnolia.
So I simply took the scissors and curved the tips.There! That's more like it.

I didn't try to get the buttercream perfectly smooth.
I think this adds a certain bit of charm that goes perfectly with the flower.

I hope Lucy enjoyed her cake, and I hope she has a wonderful birthday!

Amanda

This is Shawn's sister, Amanda. She celebrated her birthday Saturday. Her husband, Zac, asked me to make a cake with some of her favorite stores, a road and a girl walking a dog while holding shopping bags. I got it all except the dog and shopping bags. Shawn painted the model '57 Chevy car pink to sit on the road.






This was right before they picked the cake up. The party was at the lake, and I did not make it because I had stayed up all night making the cake.

I did have a helper, though- my niece, Madalyn. She was a great help through the night. She would watch a movie for a while, then come help. Shawn's parents were planning on picking the cake up around 8 or 8:30 that morning, and everytime Maddy came back into the kitchen, she would tell me how many hours I had left.

This is her about 7:30 that morning when she finally gave up. I think by this time she was on her third movie (Clueless. One of my favorites!)
