...Pray for Kate...

This little girl has been on my mind this week. Kate is a little girl from Arizona who was diagnosed with brain cancer in June, 2009. She recently celebrated her 7th birthday, & shortly after her doctors discovered that the cancer has returned.

Lately, when I get frustrated at my little problems, I stop myself & remember that I am blessed. I think of Kate, & I realize how small & insignificant my problems are compared to what she is going through.

My Daddy always says that no matter what you are going through, you can always look around & find someone who is worse off than you. So, be thankful, no matter what you may be facing, despite your problems, trial & circumstances.

Try not to grumble, fuss & complain about every little thing. There are more important things to worry about. Instead of focusing so much on the things you cannot change...say a little prayer for someone who just might need it more than you. You never know...someone might be doing the same for you!

Let's Say Thanks

According to this article from Woman's Day, saying thanks & expressing gratitude might make you healthier & happier.

To increase your health & happiness, visit this site each day. Let's Say Thanks is a program sponsored by Xerox. On the site, you are able to choose from a selection of post cards with images drawn by children around the country. You can type a message to be printed on the card you choose, along with your name and location. (You can submit a different card each day.) The submitted cards are printed and mailed in care packages to U.S. troops stationed overseas. These care packages are mailed by military support organization Give2TheTroops®.

Xerox is committed to helping people across the nation express their gratitude to our troops overseas. The launch of this program is aimed at reminding them how much Americans appreciate their service.

My Favorite Actress

This beautiful lady is my favorite actress. From 1929 to 1993, Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of true beauty. Part of her beauty came from the outside, as she was a very beautiful woman. Even more so amazing was the type of person she was. In 1988 she became a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador. She considered this the most important role in her life. This is a woman who had it all...beauty, fortune, fame (she made over 25 movies)...yet she believed that helping others was the most important thing.

We can all take a lesson from this beautiful lady. We should always consider the less fortunate and help those in need. As Audrey once said,

"I feel so strongly that's where it all starts, with kindness. What a different world this could be if everyone lived by that."

Audrey was also an an amazing actress. In 1953 she won the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Princess Anne in Roman Holiday. For more about Audrey: Marta over at this blog has a special section dedicated to Audrey Hepburn labeled Audrey Says, or Audrey words. Each post has a picture of the actress and a quote by her. Go check it out, and don't forget to show a little kindness to the next person you meet. It just might make their day!

The Bread Art Project

In an effort to help end hunger in the United States and to help raise awareness of the growing hunger problem in the United States, The Grain Foods Foundation created The Bread Art Project. Visit The Bread Art Project and decorate a virtual slice of bread. $1 will be donated to food banks for each piece of “art” submitted.

You can upload a picture from your computer for a personal effect. You can also add text. This is something fun to do that enables you to help others. It doesn’t take but a few minutes of your time, so go check it out!

Do One Nice Thing

All the way back in June, 2005, Debbie Tenzer founded DoOneNiceThing.com after she “started looking for nice things to do every Monday to counter the “Monday Blues”.” Since that time, she and other Nice-o-holics have done so many nice things for many different people around the world.

They have sent school supplies and blankets to U.S. troops; cards, dolls, games & other gifts to seriously ill and hospitalized children; thousands of books to schools, libraries and children’s hospitals; thousands and thousands of food items have been donated to food banks. They have helped needy American families in different ways, and numerous people have registered to become organ donors.

These Nice-o-holics reside in 90 different countries! The things done through D1NT are wonderful examples of the many great things that can be accomplished when people from everywhere are able to set aside their differences and care for others in need.

So, if you would, go check out D1NT, and do something nice for someone. Join the email mailing list, and you will receive an email twice a month with new, stories and ideas. You can also print some D1NT cards to get others you meet along the way involved.

Have FUN spreading niceness everywhere you go!
